Over the last year we’ve been putting out a great deal of content around what we do and how we work. We’ve written articles on MVPs, project management, planning and digital transformation, giving you an idea of our ‘flavour’ of agency working. We’ve also given you some insight into the technology that we use, including GraphQL, JavaScript and PHP.
More recently, we’ve been focusing on the particular industries and areas of work that form part of our wider strategy and where we are heading as an agency. This includes topics that are important to us, such as climate, the environment, smart cities, industry 4.0 and fintech.
We hope our regular stream of content is interesting and of value to you. But we thought we’d take a break this week and take a look at the AndAnotherDay team. It’s been a while since we’ve said hello, and with technology moving as quickly as it does, maybe our interests, projects and opinions have changed since we last checked in.
So here’s part one of a brief ‘meet the team’ series that will give you a better understanding of who we are as people, and what makes us tick.
Tom Clarke, Head of Development
What do you do?
My job is to architect and develop coded solutions for clients. I generally take requirements or requests from our clients and plan out a digital solution to solve that issue. Alongside that, I support and train the wider team and am there to guide them when they need it. I also make the place look untidy.
What do you get upto outside of work?
It’s no secret that I am a massive movie fan (I’m on a bit of an eighties horror kick at the moment – Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street, Candyman, The Fly). I love woodland hikes, cycling, and kayaking when I can. I’m also a BBQ smoker in training.
Is there any recent consumer tech that got you excited?
Oculus Quest 1 in 2019. It was a piece of technology that showed just how far virtual reality has come – wireless and easy to access for all users. The orientation experience that comes with the headset is the best game console tutorial I’ve ever experienced and was a perfect example of user experience and design.
A recent work highlight?
Getting the chance to work on and build a platform for a Great British Bake Off finalist was brilliant. I’m a big fan of the show, so to get to meet, speak with and deliver a project to someone who had such a big place in the show was exciting.
Sandy Garrido, Web Developer
What do you do?
I learn! A lot, and every day. I’m big on process and am a huge advocate of any improvements or changes that we can make. But first and foremost, I love to build amazing, beautiful and functional websites.
What do you get upto outside of work?
I like to learn a lot outside of work too – improving my skills, sometimes skills that I can bring back into work. I enjoy PC gaming and love to squeeze that in when I can.
Is there any recent consumer tech that got you excited?
Right now I’m in the process of building a beast of a PC, which features Rick and Morty themed water cooling. So anything related to PC building gets me excited, but also the games too. I love titles like Valorant, Warzone and Counterstrike, with multiplayer keeping me sane throughout the various lockdowns.
A recent work highlight?
One of our clients had a problem where data entry required a town or a postcode, but a lot of towns would cause issues with their systems. So at times, they’d need to Google the town, find the business and then locate the postcode… sometimes up to 200 times. So we developed a super simple tool with an API connector, which gets the nearest postcode to a long list of towns. It’s not quite ready for public use yet, but I can’t wait to share more.
Kieran Kearney, Junior Front-end Developer
What do you do?
I support tasks (emotional support not included). I provide the front-end magic and enjoy being the best-looking in the office, and to be honest, that’s the easiest part of the job.
What do you get upto outside of work?
I still like to tinker with code outside of work. I keep a close eye on the financial markets and keep both eyes on VR. I’m also partial to a bit of airsoft. So watch out.
Is there any recent consumer tech that got you excited?
It’s got to be the Oculus Quest 2.
A recent work highlight?
Being able to see the many satisfied and happy responses from the clients who use our @help email for general and day-to-day support. That’s why we do this, right?
Keep an eye out for next week’s part two where we’ll hear from bossman Keiron and our superb remote developer, Jose.
