About The Client
Tchibo Coffee International’s brand, Smokin’ Bean was founded by a small team of enthusiastic and creative young professionals. Using their expert knowledge of the coffee industry, alongside a passion for ethical, great-tasting coffee, they created Smokin’ Bean. Their vision was simple. They wanted to create a brand that could be enjoyed by the coffee lovers of today and tomorrow; a brand more artisan and revolutionary than other well-known coffee brands, yet more accessible than small-batch coffee roasters.
AndAnotherDay had some very extensive discovery meetings with the team, which allowed us to gain a valuable understanding and insight into the business and its objectives, to allow us to create stunning designs that reflected not only the visual ideas they had but to also communicate their values effectively.
About The Project
Smokin’ Bean’s previous website was originally created as a stop-gap to promote the brand from its inception. It had become somewhat dated and was no longer fit for purpose.
Whilst remaining true to the corporate guidelines, the imagery, layout and general styling needed a rethink. It also carried no stylistic animation, very little in the way of lead capture and customer journey. There were also a few issues with mobile responsiveness.
This gave us a lot to think about when it came to creating the visual designs, and the customer journey.
The project included:
- Creative web design
- Intuitive website build
- Easy to use CMS
Our Approach
We took inspiration from Tchibo’s own Smokin’ Bean show lounge at their Epsom offices alongside the direction of their pre-existing site, the point of sale stands and existing merchandise.
We knew the look of the website had to capture the feeling of an artisan coffee house and create brand recognition for customers seeing the site before experiencing the coffee and for those who had seem the installations who wanted to see the same branding as soon as they hit the home page.
We had to cater for two audiences, both the business owner who wanted to know about the brand and how it would work for them and also the millennial coffee drinker. Instead of making a clear division on the site we decided the lean towards the younger coffee drinker so they would become brand loyal, eventually requesting Smokin’ Bean from the retailers, universities and festival organisers. The business owners were also catered for, but those with an understanding of their own customers needs.
There are some parts of the site which were developed, which are yet to go live. We are hoping to launch them, with Tchibo in the autumn (2019).
Our WordPress website needed a full refresh and we saw a number of agencies when trying to find a partner to support us on this. We knew that AndAnotherDay was the right fit for us because they took the time get to know our brand and it came across to us that they really got it. I had some specific ideas for our website in the brief and I liked that they challenged those with fresh ideas. Our final build was future-proofed with functionality we will use as our brand evolves.
AndAnotherDay were responsive to the changes requested during the build process and visited our offices regularly to catch up in person.
We’re very happy with our final website and we look forward to continuing our relationship with AndAnotherDay through website support and further developments on the site.
